Romantic Wedding Portraits

Many of my bridal couples make the mistake (I think) of not allowing time for romantic portraits between the wedding service and the reception. I say mistake because the time between the service and reception are the first where the couple can experience each other and their new status without the distraction of friends and family. They can just enjoy each other. And this provides a wonderful opportunity to capture some lovely photographs.

This last Sunday, I took the opportunity to attend a workshop taught by Neil Van Neikirk. His blog (http://neilvn.com/tangents/) has been a source of inspiration and a great teaching source for all things related to wedding photography. This workshop focused on created romantic wedding portraits. As Neil showed us, it is possible to create simple, effective, and moving images quickly. All that is needed is some quiet time with the bridal couple.

As you plan your wedding day, I strongly encourage you to set aside time after the service for romantic portraiture. You should plan for at least an hour. It might not take that long, but any slippage in your day's schedule will end up coming out of this period.

Here are a couple of my favorites from the workshop. I hope you enjoy them. Try to see yourself in these photos. They would make a wonderful addition to your wedding photography.
